The end of a half-hourly electricity contract is the point where costs most often go wrong. Miss the renewal window, forget a termination notice or leave a meter agent contract to lapse, and a site can end up on rates nobody chose.

We manage renewals and switches for half-hourly sites from start to finish. We track your end dates, compare offers from a range of UK suppliers, deal with the notices and make sure your metering and data arrangements carry on working after the change.

Why renewal timing matters

If a contract ends without a new one in place, the site usually moves onto out-of-contract or deemed rates. These are usually much higher than contract rates and can apply until a new agreement starts.

Most suppliers let you agree a new contract months before your end date. Starting early gives you time to collect data, test the market and choose without pressure. Our contract renewal checklist sets out what to gather and when.

What we check before you renew or switch

  • The exact contract end date for every MPAN, not just the main site
  • The notice period in your terms and whether written notice has been sent and acknowledged
  • Whether your current supplier's renewal offer is competitive against the wider market
  • Outstanding balances or disputed bills that could delay a switch
  • Your Agreed Supply Capacity, meter details and profile class
  • Who your meter operator and data agents are, and when their contracts end

Termination notices

Many business electricity contracts require written notice within a set period before the end date. If notice is missed, you may stay with the current supplier on terms you did not choose. We check your terms, help you send notice in the right form and keep a record that it was received.

Keeping your meter and data agents in order

A half-hourly site needs a meter operator and a data service as well as a supplier. When you switch, the new supplier may appoint its own agents or work with the ones you already have. Under MHHS these roles are becoming the Metering Service Advanced (MSA) and the Advanced Data Service (ADS).

If an agent appointment is not handled properly during a switch, data can stop flowing and bills can become estimated. Our metering and data service contracts support covers this in detail.

Who this service suits

This service suits any business with a half-hourly contract ending in the next year, any site already on out-of-contract rates, and any organisation that wants someone to keep track of end dates across several MPANs.

How it works

  1. Tell us your end date. Send a recent bill and your contract details, or let us request them with a letter of authority.
  2. We check your position. We confirm notice periods, agent appointments and anything that could hold up a switch.
  3. We compare the market. We put your renewal offer alongside half-hourly contracts from other suppliers.
  4. You choose. We explain the options and handle the contract paperwork and any termination notice.
  5. We follow the switch through. We confirm the start date, agent appointments and the first bill.

After the switch, a first-bill check confirms the new rates and charges match what you agreed.

Questions about renewals & switching

What happens if my half-hourly contract ends without a renewal?

The site usually moves onto out-of-contract or deemed rates, which are usually much higher than contract rates. Those rates can apply until a new agreement starts. If you are already in this position, contact us and we will compare available contracts quickly so you can move onto agreed rates as soon as possible.

Do I need to send a termination notice?

Many business electricity contracts require written notice within a set period before the end date. If notice is missed, you may stay with your current supplier on terms you did not choose. We check your contract terms, help you send notice in the right form and keep a record that it was received.

Will switching supplier interrupt my electricity supply?

No. Switching changes who bills you and the terms you pay, not the physical supply. Your electricity continues to flow through the same network connection and meter. The main thing to manage is the meter operator and data service appointments, so that half-hourly data keeps flowing after the switch, and we coordinate that for you.
